one of my memories of this show was being 50 feet from the stage and the HEAT. There was a girl in front of us who weighed in at about 80 pounds drinking a bottle of SoCo. She was out of it, and after every Dead song would stand up and holler for " Whipping Post" . She passed out before the Allmans hit the stage and slept through their entire show.

In a vacuum, this thing holds up extremely well..I mean, 6/10 is one of the All-Time Greats, as far as I'm concerned, and its sort of neglected older brother deserves a bit more time in the sun.
That post-Truckin' jam and all the Playin' madness is a real treat. The sound is clear, we have a patch on Sugar Magnolia that fills out the end of the show delightfully, and aside from a few lyrical flubs here and there it's a fine, fine companion piece to the following night....AND that absolutely sterling Allman Brothers set, if you can find it. Bobby jams on that big ol' Mountain Jam finale -

Grateful Dead Live at RFK Stadium on 1973-06-09
Notes are right, it was murderously hot that day, and precious little shade. I actually got dizzy and half-collapsed under the grandstand during the early part of the set, recovering in time to stagger back out for "Box of Rain." Spent the rest of the day back under the overhang. Allmans were fantastic.
Two years later, I briefly met Garcia at a club in Fairfax, Calif., and mentioned this show. He immediately apologized for what he called a "horrible" performance, and expressed genuine regret that I hadn't been there the following night.
